2. Setting Up Spare Numbers
The Fill Spares tool requires a Spare Number family to be specified in the Settings.
It also requires the Project “Mark” Value setting to be set to match your Equipment Schedule, KitchDesigner supports either Mark (Instance), Mark (Type), or Item Number.
The Project “Mark” Value setting is located in Settings > Project.
Click on the Settings button.
The Settings window opens on the Project tab.
2.1- Setting the Project "Mark" Value
The Project “Mark” Value must match the equipment numbering parameter used in your Equipment Schedule.
By default, KitchDesigner uses the Mark(Instance) parameter for the Project Numbering Parameter. Another common choice is the Item Number parameter which is one of the FCSI shared parameters.
2.2- Specifying a Spare Number Family
Go to the Spare Numbers tab.
To use the Fill Spares tool you will need to specify a Spare Number family. This family does not come with Revit but you can download ours below.
This family is created with Hidden Lines and no geometry so it does not show up in 3D or in a floor plan view unless Hidden Lines are visible. It is also a Specialty Equipment family so it will show up in an Equipment Schedule alongside other Specialty Equipment families.
Once you have loaded a Spare Number family into your project you can select your Spare Number family from the dropdown.
2.3- Placement Workset
The Placement Workset setting allows you to place all of the Spare Number families that are created onto a workset of your choice.
This setting is disabled until worksharing is enabled.
Once worksharing is enabled you can choose a workset from the dropdown menu.
Once a workset is specified, all Spare Number families that are created with the Fill Spares & Add Spares tools will be placed on this workset.
2.4- Numbering Style
The Numbering Style can be used when an unique numbering format is used.
The standard format consists of integers without and special characters such as 1, 2, 3 or K1, K2, K3.
There are currently two other options when the standard format is not being used, 1.001, 1.002, 1.003 and 1-001, 1-002, 1-003. Each of these numbering styles is meant to be used exactly how they are displayed.
Use the radio buttons to select your Numbering Style.
If you use a numbering style that is not shown, please contact us and we will consider adding support for it.
2.5- Select Spare Number Location
Use the button to select a location in Revit.
This location is where all Spare Numbers will be placed when using the Add Spares by Number or Fill Spares tools.
2.6- Offset
Specify an Offset height in inches. Whenever a Spare Number is created, the Offset parameter will be set to this value.
3. Using the Fill Spares tool
Click on the Fill Spares button.
The Fill Spares tool will display a list of missing item numbers in your equipment numbering which we will refer to as gaps.
These gaps can also be seen in your equipment schedule.
The purpose of the Fill Spares tool is to fill these gaps with Spare Number families.
You can select and deselect the item numbers using the checkboxes.
Each Mark Value selected will be filled by a Spare Number family when you click Proceed.
To elaborate, a Spare Number family will be created for each Mark Value checkbox and by assigning the Mark Value displayed to the Project "Mark" Value parameter specified in the Settings.
These new Spare Number families will be placed at the specified location and stacked on top of one another.
The Fill Spares tool can be used with prefixes such as K1, K2, K3, suffixes such as 3.1, 4.2, 5.1, and ranges such as 3-4, 32-55, 299-999.
Once you fill all of the gaps with Spare Numbers, the Fill Spares tool will not find any gaps to fill and the list will be empty.
